Leaves

Parental Leave

Every female worker is entitled to 16 weeks of fully paid maternity, four weeks before the expected date of birth and at least 12 weeks after birth. The employees are also entitled to 4 weeks of unpaid leave that might be taken either before or after birth. A three-month notice must be given to employers of the expected due date. Male employees can have at least 10 days if they prove and acknowledge paternity. This leave must be within four months of the birth. A notice eight weeks before birth with the specific leave dates two weeks in advance. Seychelles’ social security scheme pays maternity benefits. The difference between social security and maternity benefits and the employee’s full salary is paid by the employer.

Termination process

The employer can terminate an employment contract with notice for disciplinary procedures. The employee must be informed in writing and allowed to respond. Disciplinary action can include termination without notice although a written copy must be offered to the employee’s union representatives.

Notice Period

Seychelles notice period follows the following guidelines:

  • One day for less than three months of casual/seasonal work
  • One week for an employee on probation
  • One month for all other workers, apart from non-Seychelles employees
  • One month or specified notice period in the contract for a non- Seychelles employee
